From Partnership to Practice: Designing Social Work Student Fellowships Through Cross-Sector Collaboration

Alexander Rubin Katie Stalker and Heather Cruz

In this online course you will learn:

An MSW fellowship was created to address the divide between community need and workforce capacity surrounding supervised visitation support within an urban center. This fellowship engaged MSW students with cross-sector partners in government, the court system, and a nonprofit agency to facilitate supervised visitation, subsequently impacting over 3,000 families.

Learning Objectives
1. Describe practical social work skills that can be strengthened through supervised visitation and other community-engaged placement models.
2. Examine how cross-sector partnerships can expand service capacity while supporting student professional development.
3. Apply lessons from the fellowship model to other social work education, agency, or community partnership settings.
