The Emerging Leaders Institute offers two tailored 12-hour workshops designed to meet the unique needs of new and experienced emerging leaders in nonprofit management.
These immersive sessions provide practical tools, peer collaboration, and expert guidance to enhance leadership capabilities, strengthen strategic thinking, and effectively navigate sector challenges.Â

These workshops integrate psychological safety, emotional intelligence, and trauma-informed leadership, ensuring that participants develop technical leadership skills and the ability to create safe, inclusive, and resilient workplaces. Feedback loops will be incorporated into every module.
Applicants interested in facilitating one or more modules of the Emerging Leaders Institute must submit proposals that demonstrates expertise, alignment with NSWM’s leadership philosophy, and capacity to deliver engaging, practice-oriented training.
Speaker Proposal Requirements:
1. Module Selection
Specify the module you are proposing to teach from the ELI Part 1 or ELI Part 2 framework below. Speakers may apply for multiple modules but must submit separate applications for each of them.
2. 50-Word Module Description
Provide a concise, 50-word summary for each module you are proposing to deliver. These descriptions should:
• Reflect the module’s goals and relevance for emerging or advanced nonprofit leaders
• Convey your instructional approach in a succinct, practitioner-focused format
• Be suitable for use in public-facing materials, schedules, and promotional content.
3. 3000 Character Abstract
Submit a 3000 character (approximately 450–500 words) abstract that describes your overall teaching approach for the module. The abstract should address:
• The leadership competencies you will strengthen
• Core concepts, frameworks, or models you will introduce
• How the session engages adult learners through applied learning or interactive practice
• How your approach aligns with NSWM’s mission and vision
• The expected outcome for participants and how the content will support their growth as emerging or advanced leaders.
The abstract should be written at a level appropriate for both review by the selection committee and publication in program materials.
 4. Five-Minute Video Demonstration
Provide a link to a 5-minute video that showcases your training or facilitation style. You can submit the same link in multiple applications. The video may include:
• A live training excerpt
• A recorded presentation
• A simulated teaching segment demonstrating how you would deliver content from the selected module
The committee will evaluate clarity of delivery, engagement techniques, content mastery, and alignment with NSWM’s leadership framework. Production quality is not the priority; authenticity and instructional competence are.
5. Presenter Qualifications
Include a brief description of your professional background and expertise relevant to the topic area(s), including:
• Nonprofit or social sector leadership experience
• Supervision, program management, or executive experience (if applicable)
• Prior teaching, training, or facilitation experience
• Relevant publications, frameworks, or specialized knowledge

Compensation and Future Opportunities
Presenters selected for the Emerging Leaders Institute will be compensated through a revenue-sharing model based on registrations for their session(s). Details of the revenue structure will be provided upon selection. In addition, high-performing presenters may be considered for future NSWM in-person and on-the-ground training opportunities, including regional institutes, chapter events, and contracted leadership development programs.
